IS IT A COLD OR THE FLU? #INFOGRAPHIC
Influenza and cold are both respiratory diseases, but they are caused by different bacteria. Because of the similar symptoms of these two types, distinguishing between them is difficult for symptoms alone. In specific, with more severe symptoms, flu is worse than the usual cold.

Colds are usually milder than flu. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose. Colds do not generally lead to serious health problems such as pneumonia, bacterial infection, or hospitalization.

Since colds and influenza have a number of illnesses, it may be difficult (or even impossible) to distinguish between them on the grounds of symptoms. Special tests, usually conducted in the first few days of the disease, can tell if an individual has influenza.
