VISUALIZING AMERICA’S STUDENT DEBT BY STATE #INFOGRAPHIC
The interactive map is based on student debt credit reports from the 2013 American Community Survey, compiled by information on experiences and earnings. Researchers used experiential data to assess the average credit balance and crime rate across the country in zip codes. This allows the resulting choroplethal maps to capture sharp disparities between U.S. regions as well as differences in metropolitan areas in combination with demographic information from the ACS.

The data indicates an negative link between median income and delinquency while the relationship between income and average credit balance appears to be positive. That is, more rich individuals tend to have larger loan balances across the U.S. but are inclined to more efficiently generate payments for such loans, while poorer borrowers are more likely to bring loans down, but are also more likely to default on loans
