The cleaning of the home is top of mind in two main seasons: Spring and winter. Seventy-six percent of Americans claim to be involved in spring cleaning every year, and many are facing a dirty home before family visits for the holidays.

While in these times deep cleaning is common, routine maintenance is also required throughout the year. Not only can a dirty home cause bacteria and allergens to spread, but it is also a source of emotional tension. When surveyed, 66 percent of Americans said they felt stressed or anxious about a dirty home.

We questioned 1,000 Americans about their cleaning habits to get a better idea of how people handle cleaning at home. When asked "Who does most of the cleaning in your home?," 63 percent reported doing the cleaning themselves, 12 percent left it to their wife or other important, and 12 percent pawn it off on a maid or cleaning service. More than 5 percent of respondents said that most of the cleaning was done by their roommate, mother, sibling or relative.

The effect of decluttering on mood and self-esteem has been confirmed. Clutter can confuse our senses, eliminate the attention from other things, and make relaxation difficult. Creativity and efficiency can be hindered. This disorganized condition is also a source of embarrassment and remorse for visiting visitors about what your home will look like.
