New products and services and changes in the behavior of animal owners, particularly in animal health and well-being, open up numerous possibilities in the pet sector. About 70 percent of American households have at least one dog, according to Advantage Solutions ' infographic The Humanization of Animals. Nine out of ten dog owners and cat owners view their dogs as a "family," with almost half dog owners finding it more difficult to leave their pet for a week than their human partners.

The vast majority of pet owners (84 percent) agree that more needs to be done by suppliers to ensure the safety of pet food and treatments. About 3/4 want to learn about the pet food's origin and care. As their domestic animals get older, the same proportion of animal owners would like pet food to continue to function. Animal personalization' includes data from different sources, including the Advisory Pets Solutions SMARTeam, A.T. Kearney, Common Sense, e-Marketing, Gerber, Google Surveys, Mintel, Packaged Data, rover.com, Simmons, U.S. Census and Statista, National Pet Owners Survey 2017-2018.
