To be frank, it is quite shocking that plastic does not cover every square foot of the earth. Analysis has calculated that since 1950 humans have created 6,300 metric tons of waste, of which only 9% have been recycled. The same study predicts that it will double the amount of waste by 2050 if the trends in waste management continue at this staggering rate. Scientists also argue that it is highly likely that plastics will not break down.

It reveals only one thing, no matter how you view the current picture: Plastic suffocates Earth. The study by CitiGPS reports that single-use plastic bottles make up 15% of ocean waste. The biggest problem with plastics is that they don't break down. This takes about 500 years to degrade plastics into smaller pieces called microplastics.
