Any online data, especially from messaging vendors, can be used extensively, even in the context of criminal activity. To order to protect these digital documents, the hand of the law must also enter the realm of the worldwide web. That hand is the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) of the Federal Investigation Bureau (FBI).
CJIS is combating cyber crime in order to further its goals by gathering electronic information from different law enforcement agencies and then enforcing strict compliance requirements and standards. These specifications consist of 12 security policy areas to be effectively achieved by various messaging vendors.
