America is one of the most popular destinations in the world for students looking to earn a higher education abroad. American universities and colleges are among the top ranking in the nation, and the student community is also a big advocate in the preference of graduates.
According to the 2019 Open Doors Report on International Education Exchange released by IIE, 1,095,299 international students were enrolled in American higher education institutes during the 2018/19 academic year. It is the fourth consecutive year the number of international students has increased by more than a million. This represents a major boost for the economy.

Given its strained political relationships with the US at the moment, the largest number of international students in American colleges and universities were from China, with 369,548 participating in undergraduate, secondary, and other non-degree programmes. The data is very informative and shows that, given American higher education institutions ' increasing tuition fees, they remain ever-popular with students worldwide.
One point to note remains that half of all American international students are participating in the STEM fields. Afterwards many of these students stay and help improve the country's economy, or return to their own and work in their respective fields.
