Contamination kills! We are all well aware of this. Yet did you know that, each year as a result of air pollution, more than 8.3 million people die around the world? Pollution actually kills three times as many people a year as it does in combination with various diseases such as HIV / Aids, tuberculosis, and malaria. It has also said killing 15 times as many people as fighting and other forms of violence annually.

Such results were published by Global Alliance on Health and Pollution in its latest report. Their report stated that in low-and middle-income countries at least 90 per cent of premature pollution deaths occur.

India and China have been identified as the most polluted countries with 2,326,711 deaths per year, and 1,865,566 deaths from pollution. Nigeria ranked third while Indonesia and Pakistan came close behind. The USA is also part of the top 10 list of contaminated countries with about 200,000 deaths per year.

The report also found that the pollution-causing deaths were a concern not only in industrial cities but also in middle to low-income countries where the availability of clean indoor air is restricted due to poor and polluted sanitation.
