Literacy in any language is one of the most important and fundamental tools needed for any modern society to thrive. Most correspondence nowadays takes the form of writing, and unfortunately, if a person can not read or write, they are unable to access that information.

In view of this, analphabetism is one of the 21st century's biggest social issues, which affects millions of people around the world. Because of financial and cultural constraints, and a growing number of child laborers, children, especially girls, do not have the opportunity to get any kind of schooling, and travels through the generations to analphabetry.

If we think of people who are analphabetes, we think of people who are born in countries of the third world or of people who belong to disenfranchised minorities. However, this infographic provides an overview of the groups with the lowest literacy skill in the English language in America. What's noteworthy is that the largest number of people with poor English literacy skills are the country-born White Americans among the other racial groups.

Those figures are based on the abilities of PIAAC literacy and identify people between 16 and 65 years of age. This type of research not only helps social scientists and politicians but also helps to clear assumptions among the general public about certain racial issues
