Black flies are always annoying, and traps to sugar bottles can get rid of them. You need to cut the top-third of a plastic bottle to make it. And cut a tiny hole into the hat. A mixture of one cup of water and three tbsp of sugar fills the bottom part of the container. The top half is flip so the cap faces down to create a funnel which is placed in the bottom half and sealed by tape. It works when the sugar lures the flies in the pit, so they can't escape from the narrow opening.
