The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States has diagnosed yet another case of coronavirus, raising the number of confirmed cases to five. The new confirmed case is located in Arizona but in recent times all five cases of coronavirus identified in the US include individuals traveling to Wuhan at some point.

According to Johns Hopkins University, about 3,000 coronavirus cases have been identified–with a majority in China. And the health crisis is expanding quickly to other world countries including Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Vietnam, Singapore, and South Korea.

The failure of global health authorities to monitor the epidemic poses the big question: How are the countries equipped to contain these large outbreaks? What nation is the most and least equipped to tackle an outbreak of this severity from the 195 countries worldwide?

The Global Health Protection Index was published last year, in which countries around the world assessed the rates of preparedness. The countries were measured on a scale from 0 to 100 with the highest being 100.

The United States scored 83.5 as predicted, and came out as the world's most prepared country. United Kingdom came in second with a ranking of 77.9 while the Netherlands came in third with 75.6. The coronavirus epicenter–China came in 51st place with 48.2 points.

If it came to the countries least prepared for health emergencies, Africa was considered the most vulnerable with Equatorial Guinea and the worst nation being Somalia. The two countries averaged just over 16 points and listed in 194 and 195.
