The coronavirus has infected more than 109,000 individuals from 104 countries around the world since its outbreak close to the end of 2019. Travelers have restricted flying as a precautionary measure, while multiple economic, social, and even religious activities are cancelled due to fear of being exposed to it.

And now, for an indefinite time, many countries have required schools to be closed as the children are theoretically the most at risk. Nevertheless, UNESCO says closing of schools in more than 13 countries leaves approximately 290.5 million children at home.

Being the disease's epicenter, China's 233 million children are the most out of school. Japan with 331 coronavirus diagnoses holds 16.5 million children at home while Iran claims to have 14.6 million children affected by school closures.

While the closing of schools that reduce the exposure of children to the virus, it does have its collection of adverse consequences. It involves preventing learning by the children and keeping them deprived of opportunities for development. Working parents will also take leave of their work to care for the kids when they're off school.

Many educational institutes have introduced protocols of digital learning to help children stay updated with their learning materials. However, children belonging to poor countries facing restricted access to the Internet and advanced technology do not have the choice.
