Meet China’s 113 Cities With More Than One Million People #infographic

In 2010, China's urban-dwelling population exceeded its rural population, marking the country's historic demographic milestone. Only 3 decades ago, China appeared distinctly different. Only 20 per cent of Chinese people lived in urban areas, and many of today's metropolises were still small towns.

Massive swaths of the population have since shifted from farmland to to cities, a change that still triggers a swelling of many urban areas. The case at hand is the development of Guangzhou, which lies north of Hong Kong. From 1980 till today more than 18 million people moved to the city. A 40-year-old born in Guangzhou will see their small, regional town mushroom as one of the largest urban amalgamations on Earth.
