Coronavirus spread is becoming uncontrollable and reducing its scale – government and health authorities across the globe are advising people to stay home and practice social distance. This means no dining out, shopping, driving, family get-togethers and moving theaters.

People also enjoy going to the cinema for the new movies in this digital age. It's not only a fun type of entertainment but a kind of 'escapism' that helps them to turn off from reality and enjoy a nice 90-minute dream.

Unfortunately in these critical times that's not likely!

With self-isolation and social distancing, the only tools available to combat the pandemic, one of the biggest hits was the cinema theatres. Hollywood has also delayed countless releases, in addition to shutting down theatres across the country. In reality, the Mojo Box Office reports that earnings from the domestic box office are down 52 per cent this week ending March 12 and 69 per cent.

Sadly, this is just the beginning and with a likely shutdown planned for weeks – even months, the industry should be supported in every possible way. The National Association of Theater Owners wrote a statement in this regard, and during this period asked the authorities to assist them. NATO called on Congress and the Administration to keep their theaters and their thousands of workers healthy.
