The history of logos can be traced back to ancient symbols, Egyptian hieroglyphs, cattle branding and early family crests. It is suspected that commercial branding mostly originated with the custom of branding livestock to prevent theft.
Within ancient Egyptian tombs dating back to 2,700 B.C.E., representations of cattle branding have been found. Over time, buyers (and creators) discovered that a brand offered details about the origin and ownership of a commodity and could help to signify quality. Farmers, potters, and merchants then began to adapt the branding to mark their craftsmanship.
