9 Fascinating Facts About Breathing #infographic

The average person breathes each minute in the equivalent of 13 pints of air and takes 17,000 breaths a day. In reality, "Breathing Air" is not a reasonable definition of what happens at breathing. Air consists of nearly 79 per cent of nitrogen, 21 per cent of oxygen and minimal quantities of elements such as helium, carbon dioxide and hydrogen.

Inhaled air consists of 16 percent oxygen, 4 percent carbon dioxide and the same nitrogen as 79 percent. Our lungs substitute for carbon dioxide about 4-5 per cent of oxygen. Each single day our lungs exhale nearly half a liter (0.42 L) of water. Insert the number into your criteria for hydration. Most people will hold their breath for a maximum of 1-2 minutes but in 2010 Denmark's Stig Severinsen held his breath for 22 minutes during a free dive. That is the power of breathing under pressure.
