Although opioid-related deaths have declined in the United States in recent years, they still pose a major threat to the population. The increase in popularity of heroin and designer drugs such as speedballs (cocaine mixed with heroin) is leading to the country's growing number of new opioid overdose deaths. That combined with the misuse of prescription opioids such as oxycodone and hydrocodone results in thousands of opioid-related deaths each year in our country.

A recent infographic from Parker Waichman LLP examines opioid overdose deaths and state-by-state prescription rates to see if any link exists between opioid deaths and opioid prescribing rates. Look at which states are reporting the most opioid overdose deaths per capita, and where opioids are most widely prescribed in the country.
