As the coronavirus epidemic continues to wreak havoc across the world, the time people spend on the couch is now spending that would otherwise have been spent perusing malls or going to live events.

It's no surprise that people are consuming vast amounts of media during this period of pandemic-induced social isolation. Today's graphics use data from a Global Web Index report to explore how, as a result of the outbreak, people have increased their media consumption, and how it differs across each generation.

Global Web Index found that more than 80 percent of U.S. and UK consumers say they have been consuming more content since the outbreak, with broadcast TV and online videos (YouTube, TikTok) being the primary media across generations and genders.

Unsurprisingly, over any other activity, 68 per cent of consumers are looking for pandemic updates online. However, Gen Zers has other ambitions, because they're the only generation that's more likely to listen to music than to look for news.
