As Airbnb is ravaged by the coronavirus we looked at how serious the situation is for hosts.
To be honest, as has been shown by drastic declines worldwide since March, the network was in a very tough condition. Rental analytics company AirDNA positions numbers at catastrophe level:
New reservations are down 85 per cent
The cancelation rate was approximately 90 per cent
$1.5 billion has been wiped out on bookings
No travel means no rental income for guests, with plenty of world lock-downs. Yet for their own mortgage and rental payments they 're still on the hook, so they're in a severe cash-flow crunch.
This is especially alarming for those 'super hosts' who have built entire businesses around the Airbnb network and a portfolio of multiple properties.
