The importance of crowd control, crowd management and a proper plan for emergency evacuation is sometimes ignored before there is a catastrophic human stampede. Human stampedes and crushes have occurred at crowded events throughout history, usually caused by panic spreading like wildfire through the crowd. Anything as easy as a luggage trick has caused a deadly human stampede, as was the case with the Hajj Stampede in 2006.
