Do you have concern for supporting and caring for the elderly, and want to support them with their everyday tasks? Then, maybe you want a job in Aged care. Australia's government has predicted there may be about 179,000 job openings in the aged care industry over the next five years.

An Aged Care Worker's key roles include but are not limited to:


  • Supporting mobility
  • Help with day to day activities
  • Preparing food
  • Cleaning, Emptying
  • Organisationate social activities
  • Keeping hygiene
  • Offer psychiatric aid
  • Outdoor activities such as taking shopping

The minimum Aged Care Industry certification is either Cert III or IV. Although educational standards are not that strict, employers tend to recruit skilled workers.

A Criminal Background Review could be mandatory according to the Aged Care Act 1997 if someone wishes to work with older people. It means that all staff and volunteers are qualified to care for the elderly and are not punished for any offences that could threaten the safety of the elderly / disabled people.
