Is the 'Made in India' label relevant to consumers? To that the reaction is yes and no. While "Made in India" was the most popular label in the country – viewed even more favorably than "Made in the US" or "Made in Germany" – quality , price and brand name were still more important to consumers than where a product was produced.

According to a survey by YouGov, the Indians were most likely to inspect a country of origin label for food, but also for telephones and vehicles – both choices with a wide range of products manufactured locally and/or by local brands. When it comes to alcoholic drinks, less Indians go by the original name, maybe reflecting a market segment with weaker home-grown choices and labels
