COVID-19's abrupt change has left many retail shops outdated. Despite consumer spending going online, Neiman Marcus, JCPenney, and J.Crew have filed for bankruptcy. This, combined with high debt burdens across a number of retail chains, further compounds the brick and mortar decline. In fact, one project projects that it will replicate at least 25,000 U.S. stores over the next year.

Today, as threats to the security and supply chain — with COVID-19 related costs in trillions — Amazon remains at the top. This outperforms the next closest market value competitor, Amazon, by $1 trillion.
