In Amnesty 's results, Mexico has the highest death toll in any country with 1,320 heath employees dying in the pandemic so far. Mexico has a low test rate relative to the countries while health workers took to the streets in major cities to protest a persistent shortage of PPE during the early stages of the outbreak. Amnesty says hospital staff are particularly at risk, as most of these facilities have now been outsourced, resulting in lower standards of protective equipment.

According to new data released by Amnesty International, an estimated 7,000 health workers around the world have now died from Covid-19. Worldwide, there is no systemic global monitoring of health worker deaths and Amnesty gathers and analyzes available data in over 80 countries. It has cautioned that its results reflect a snapshot as a health worker's definition differs across countries although Covid-19 death often appears to be perceived differently.
