The hydrogen economy refers to a potential hydrogen-based future energy supply system (H2). In 1970, during a talk at the General Motors (GM) Technical Center, John Bockris first coined the word. Hydrogen is endorsed by proponents of this new scheme as a potential fuel source. Like other energy sources, free hydrogen does not occur naturally in terms of quantity of use, but can be generated by various methods. Hydrogen is, as such, an energy carrier, not a primary energy source. The feasibility of a hydrogen economy is based on issues such as the use of fossil fuels, generation of renewable energy and energy procurement.
