After the country's constitutional court struck down a long-standing and restrictive abortion law, South Korea has until the end of the year to craft a new regulation for women who want to terminate their pregnancy. A bill introduced last week would allow abortions before 14 weeks of gestation without the requirement for a particular reason or medical need to be present.

A global map of abortion laws shows, with data from the Center for Reproductive Rights, that Korea is one of the few developing countries in the world to still criminalize abortion.

By beginning to allow abortions without restriction by reason after a popular referendum, Ireland dropped off that list almost two years ago. Before, Ireland had some of the most strict abortion laws in the country.
