Which states have seen the most fatal car crashes resulting in deaths? Approximately 1.35 million people are killed on roadways around the world every single year. West Virginia, which has seen 90.3 deaths from fatal car accidents per 100,000 persons, is the state with the highest death rate (based on 2018 data).

Using 2018 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC), the Statutes-of-Limitations.com team put together this guide. California saw the most deaths from fatal vehicle crashes in 2018, with 14,153. The only three states that saw death tolls exceeding 10,000 were California, Florida (12,670), and Texas (10,646). Wyoming (353), North Dakota (358), and Alaska (400) had the three lowest death totals.
